i cant stand all of the new stuff that goes into cars nowadays, my friend has a 2012 liberty and he freaked out because his check engine light was on and he found out it was because one of his tire's pressure was a little lower than it was supposed to be. I tried helping him hook up an amp and a sub but everything was so difficult to deal with i couldn't. Why can't people understand cars like they used to. i have to put a floor board in mine and my friends keep telling to buy a new car. I always tell them i would need 3-4k to get a car thats in better shape than my cherokee and a floor board cost me $70. anyways if a "similar" cherokee were to come out i don't think it would sell too good considering what kind of cars people are looking for and i don't think i would buy one when you can find old cherokees dirt cheap and drivable

weight and fuel efficiency is what is going on. Uncle Sam says so. They could never bring back the 4.0 technically speaking. And they have brought a new diesel GC back for last/this year. The commander is honestly the closest thing to a cherokee, in exterior styling, that jeeps tried since 01. It didn't sell very well and they blame the "boxiness" I'm sure. I read where the designer of the '14 Cherokee said "we simply couldn't make it a box". I find that funny since the jk is rolling off the assembly lines in crazy numbers. Its all in pleasing the 16-22 year olds who are getting new vehicles from pops. Pops knows jeep is a really good company and bang; sold. Lol solid axles are great just downsize the commander and KISS. They need to remember that not everyone is out there looking for a brand new-hip buttons n whistles-ride. They need to think of us jeepers, where there is a massssssive market, enough to keep jeep afloat almost itself. Imagine if they made a simple plane Jane rig, and listened to what jeepers wanted.

You forget that the XJ weighs less than most of the current Jeep lineup right now lol. If you want fuel economy compare an XJ with the 2.5 TD to a JK Rubicon!

Us "real Jeepers" already spend all of our money fixing our Jeeps!

lots of good ideas here, we could be designing the new xj and not even know it ..

I'm on board with the diesel no doubt, and mandatory its standard.. KISS method also must apply it would cut down on manufacturing cost, obviously wouldn't appeal to mall ninjas nor the mass market but I believe there is a HUGE market for a bare bones jeep in an XJ configuration of sorts...

Not sure if I'd buy one brand new but would give serious thought for one a couple years old....

New Cherokees are gay as hell. They need to pick up where 01 left off. Why did they halt production of the xj anyway?

New cars in general suck because everything is plastic and keeps getting harder to work on for someone with general knowledge. I would want to stay with the simple cars
