Default Would I be wasting my time?

I have a set of 79 Bronco axles that i want to put under my XJ, but I'm thinking that I would be wasting my time. The biggest tire that this thing will see is a 33x12.5 (already have them, just not installed) and either way I go, 3" lift is the most it will be getting.

It currently has a non disco d30 with all new ball joints and new U-Joints and a 27spl 8.25. I have a set of 4.10's for the d30 that came out of my first XJ when it got scrapped and have been keeping an eye out for a 4.10 trac loc 8.8 every time i go to the junkyard.

Give me your thoughts and opinions please.

For 33s, unless you are going ***** out with lockers you'll be fine on your current axles.

If I don't go with the full widths, I will be swapping in an 8.8. I will not settle for anything less than a factory 4.10 LSD unit though and I will rebuild the TracLoc with extra disks like the Mustang crowd does.

I just put the Bronco axles on Craigslist. Kinda overpriced them, but if I get a bite I guess that will make my mind up for good...

I don't see the point to swapping to the 8.8 for 33's. Never understood why guys want the LSD unit either. You'd be fine just using your stock axles or swapping in a 29 spline 8.25. Throw a lunchbox in the rear and never look back till it's time to upgrade for bigger tires.

Full widths will be a waste on 33s, and you'll lose some clearance in the rear. Also keep in mind that the 79 bronco front axle will have cast radius arm wedges, so you'll either be fabbing extended radius arms (and a crossmember) or making some super sketchy 4 link setup welded overtop of the cast wedges.

I also considered chopping the center section out and using everything from the C's out from my disco d30 to essentially build myself a Rubicon44 for cheap.

OR I could use Dodge C's-out and get a stronger unit bearing and much bigger brakes.

Either way I would just use 30 spline chromos. I am honestly not a fan of selectable hubs, I would rather not have to get out and lock the hubs, just yank the t-case lever and KNOW I am in 4x4...
