is it worth swapping to a diesel?
can anyone help me decide?
i have a 1995 4.0 petrol XJ Cherokee. I do about 180 miles a week in it just running about and spend about £35 in petrol a week.
It has just passed another years MOT, has 6 months tax and there are only minor things that need doing like a sticky ignition switch and the electric seats not working.
I am considering changing to a Grand Cherokee diesel around the same sort of age.
Would there be any benefit in terms of fuel useage?
Is it better the devil you know than the devil you dont?! lol. I am slightly scared I will sell it and then get a lemon and have to spend alot more money.
Any advice would be apreciated.
Many thanks

Hi
If your getting 180 miles on £35 of petrol your doing around 29 mpg (£1.26/L 4.54 L = 1 Imp Gallon) which is just as good as a diesel model!
Stick with the 4.0L much quieter and more power when you need it.
BTW welcome another UK member where abouts you from? I am in Worcestershire.

yea i forgot you guys don't like peugeots over there (for some reason i love crappy cars like the 106 even though id have to import one to own it) but vws are fun to (i love the late 80's polos the best) and im glad your keeping your petrol motor, engine swapping can be the biggest pain in the butt sometimes.

My ex-girlfriend had an old Peugot 505. When I sat in it I had the seat all the way back and my knees were half way up the steering wheel and my ear sat comfortably on the ceiling from my head being forcibly tilted.
I hate that french garbage.
