Is it worth it?
1999
I'm a newbie on here and don't mean to hijack a thread but it's along the same lines...I'm looking at buying a 1999 jeep cherokee classic. It is a one owner, immaculate exterior and interior. Carfax shows a clean, no accident, one owner vehicle. Here comes the rub....it has 302,000 miles! It was used to commute 120 miles a day to work. He put 25,000 miles a year on it commuting in a rural area. The asking price was 3900 dollars and I have talked them down to 3200. NADA book value for clean retail is 5000...only a 125 dollar deduct for miles I guess my question is....is it worth it, or is that toooooooo many miles??

That's a lot of miles, but who knows, it may have 100,000 more left on it. I would never pay that much though, in my opinion, $3200 is too much to spend on something with 300k on it. You could spend that much and get an XJ with 150k on it instead.

I would say thats too much... I paid 500 for a 96 w/ 192k and it's in pretty good condition and had a new 4.0 put in 2 years ago. I think you could do better, either talk them down a grand or 2 or walk away. You'll feel real silly if that motor or trans goes out.

A Toyota dealership has it. They took it in on trade. I'm sure they have squat into it but seem reluctant to take any less for it. What ticks me off is that if they sell it to a wholesaler he will give them rough trade in price for it, which is about 2300! I have been searching autotrader, craigslist (across the country) ebay, and anywhere else I can look trying to find a damn Cherokee....they all want to much money for miles and condition.

I was in car sales for a short time, I bet they got it for pennys compaired to what they are trying to get you to pay. Buy private sale and help the local economy.
