I asked myself that same question. Only answer I came up with was it looks cool and Jeep owners are like a big family

I work as a mechanic for a State agency that has a large fleet of XJs, I drove them around town and kind of liked how they performed and they were fun to drive. I started my search for an XJ, went to the fleet auctions, searched craigslist, checked out used car lots, but I was not able to find a clean unmolested XJ in my price range. I started to look for Grand Cherokees and found a lot of clean ZJs that were adult owned that fit into my price range. I picked up my 95 ZJ with the 4.0, which was one of my purchase points, and a 231 transfer case for less than 3 grand. It's comfy and roomy, it's easier for me to get into compared to an XJ, and has some nice creature comforts. It's awesome off road right out of the box, I've been in some places that I thought it would never make it through, but it does great. I've had a Toyota pickup, but it was an unfinished project when I bought it, and it was still unfinished when I sold it. I had a 93 Explorer, it was great on pavement, but sucked off road and was gutless. I love my ZJ, it's just a great all around vehicle with super reliability and inexpensive to repair for the most part.

My mom has had 7, and they're cheaper than a wrangler, you get more doors than a wrangler and just as much offroad capability. Cheap aftermarket parts ect ect the list goes on and on

Because the feeling of following your dads lifted tj with 35's and front and rear lockers in a stcok xj is priceless. The feeling to go anywhere you want is amazing!

To be honest, I almost didn't this time 'round.

When my previous daily driver, a '98 Plymouth Neon (don't laugh, it could happen to you) crapped out on me at 235,000 miles (!!), I had to find something else to drive. I was looking at two other cars... a Volvo 740 and a Caprice Classic. The Caprice was in much worse condition than was advertised, and the Volvo guy kept giving me the run around (I'd call, he'd say, "Oh, it's about an hour south, I'm bringing it up on Tuesday, and then on Tuesday he'd say the same thing, ad nauseum). Then randomly, I noticed an XJ on Craigslist and had flashbacks to my old '87 XJ that I'd gotten rid of in 2007, and... yeah. Got it the next day.

Ive always wanted to have a Jeep and go out on the trail. XJ and ZJ where the only things in my price bracket and there was no way I was buying an ugly, heavy, fulltime 4x4 ZJ. Brought the 1st one I looked at and have loved it ever since. It may not have been the best maintained or the most beautiful Jeep around but it sure as hell is alot of fun.

Always planned on getting a Jeep at some point. Went looking at the Wranglers and decided the entry price was too high for what you get out of it.

Looked at XJs, searched really hard for a local manual transmission one, ended up buying an already lifted and moderately built XJ for less than a stock Wrangler (even a YJ).

I also wanted the extra seating and storage that the XJ offered and I already have a car with T-Tops so I wasn't concerned about taking the top off.

On top of all of that, I'd rather have the car everyone says can't do something and do it anyways then the one that EVERYONE is driving.

Cause it's a cheap *** beater car that I can take wherever i want, and it also pulls my boat.

Has nothing to do with hate of another vehicle, it was just cheap as dirt and ended up being what I bought when I wanted to buy a winter beater.

I'll tell you one thing... I do love my Toyota (Lexus) more than my Jeep.

When I was 2 years old my dad bought my mom a brand new 1989 5spd it was her dd for 13 years escaped death from a horrible wreck twice in Memphis and handed down to me when I was 15. I drove it for two years until it died at 297,879 miles. So recently I decided to buy me an offroad toy and there was no other choice for me. Got my 1995 and its just as capable at 2k total as my buddy's 4k and 8k rigs.
