I have found about 75% of parts guys are idiots.
I got tires at pepboys a while back and they didnt torque my lugs, and for the love of god, my cherokee does not have a V f-ing 6!!
For much of the big stuff, I order online and have it shipped. Autozone does free shipping all the time.
The Napa near me has two guys who are awesome. The KNOW about the parts they are selling. If I ever need anything odd, or dont know exactly what it is, I know they will find it. I swear I could walk in their and ask them for "the metal flange thingy" and they would pull my part out from under the counter

yea they need to ask them if they know how to work a puter and know at least a little about cars, before they hire them. the one advance here in town has this woman who knows quite a bit, most of the guys are asking her opinion, and she is pretty hot too!

The nearest Napa to me is quite bad. One of the guys there is a know it all, and is way too cocky. I have had nothing but issues with him, one time he felt like informing me of "industry standards" and that I wasn't going to get what I wanted from any other place. Put the pile of stuff I needed down on his counter and walked out. Its like a good ole boy club there, and not many teeth left. Luckly there is a another napa 10 miles away that has decent guys that know what they are talking about and aren't ******** about how they go about business.

I think the local auto parts store business is on the downslide with all the internet ordering and better pricing (!) then the local place. For repair items, I do go to my local parts store. (workers are cool and the owner is a good guy) Things like hubs, ball joints etc. Yes I could have gotten them cheaper off the internet, but in these crappy times, they need all the business they can get. And man are they nice to have when you blow a radiator hose or something the day before a Jeep ride.
The only thing hotter than a chick who knows something about cars, is one who drives a lifted XJ

I'm fairly happy with my local AutoZone. The NAPA is very good, but expensive. I usually go there for oddball stuff or electronics, like fuel pumps.
Main complaint is that the customers usually don't have a clue about what they need and expect that the clerk will be able to deduce the parts they should buy from some unintelligible babbling. This usually ends up adding significantly to the wait times.
I only order car parts online if they're dealer only pieces or WAY cheaper. (Like 50% or less of the local price.) The return policy and warranties at my local stores make it worth paying a bit more for immediate access and easy returns.
Good example - I keep my cars a long time. I just got a free set of front brake pads for my wife's Durango as the Duralast Golds I installed 45,000 miles ago wore out. In another 45,000 miles I expect I'll get another free set.

If you order online from autozone they ship most parts free to you, if its too big, its free to the store. You dont need to deal with any clerks. If you need to return, you can go right to the store.
Plus they are always having 20% off sales

I know its late in the thread, but dammit I changed brake hoses yesterday, stayed home to do it. One hose came without copper washers (back to the store for an assortment) and one of 4 speed bleeders was non-functioning, as luck would have it, it was the one I installed on the front left.........meaning I bled the whole system........and then sucked a bunch of air back in on the last corner, THANK YOU A-ZONE!
