Why would you do that?

Just tack the cap or run full circle clips and it'll never go anywhere...

If you must use that nonsense you can cut those out of sheet metal with some shears in about 2 minutes...

Or you can weld fender washers in instead.

X2 on just tacking them in I did mine that way but next time I'll go with the washers.

So, when the joint wears out you're just supposed to grind all that crap back off?

I believe you can just cut the welds off. Ujoints and d30 axles are wear items IMO

Thanks, do you think they add strength to the assy or just prevent secondary damage to the balljoints if the caps pop?

Both but mainly keeps the caps intact which keeps everything together. Its a new mod to me personally and I just welded my caps in. When they break I'll go with the washer route.

If I wanted to do "positive retention" on a cap, I'd probably make the yoke with deeper ears, and thread the outside for a plug. Fit the joint, screw in the plug, stake in place.

Time to change the joint? Back the plug out - takes more work with the staking, but staking it in means it won't come out until you want it to!

I don't see how a threaded plug won't pop out when this happens.

I have to agree this is some BS. Encouraging ppl to do things wrong. Just take your shafts to a machine shop and have it machined to accept full clips.. probrably cost less if you are friendly with the shop.

I "machined" my shafts for full circle clips using a die grinder. works mint. no need to take them to a shop, just have a fairly steady hand ( and my hands are far from steady)

Cool.. I dint think that of doing that.

Still think this product is GHETTO FABulous.... and the way IRO advertises them as being almost alloys is a total joke and they should be cast out the 4wd community for suggesting welding a piece of sheetmetal to your axle shafts makes them that much stronger.
