Default ZJ or XJ

Grand cherokee or cherokee? Can not decide on what model to get. I Know either one I will get one with the I6. Had a wrangler with one with over 300k that thing ran great. So pretty much what are the big difference between these to models? Other than looks. The insides are a little bigger on the grands right. I do want something that is easy to fix when something breaks. Looks like the xj would be the winner on that right?
And what are some things I should look for when buy one. And would you all be scared of getting one with miles over 150k?

Now im not bassin on the ZJ, but I had the chance to get one and i turned it down. Some of them have transmission and i rear drivetrain problems (dont quote me on the second one). Plus is that they are a front and rear coil design which is great off road. Id look for a ZJ with under 100K or an XJ under 150K

agreed i bought my zj not knowing about the 249 transfercase. but its all fixed now because i swaped in a 242!

I like them both. I'm hoping to get a ZJ someday. I have heard that the transmission in some ZJs aren't very good. I'm not sure what engines have the less-than-stellar transmissions, though. The ZJ does offer a little bit more comfort and more room for passengers in the rear seat.

I think the XJ looks better, I just really like the completely boxy shape. The most common transmissions both seem to be very good (the AW4 and the AX-15). I think those are the main reasons I like the XJ better.

oops, accidentally quoted you on it....


I like my XJ. she handles well, has lots of pick-up, and is pretty comfortable, even for a 6' tall 285lb guy.

Is there any easy /fast way I can tell what trans it has?
Found a 99 with 85k on it real clean for 5700. but i think I'm leaning to the 98 xj for 3000 and put some money in the bank or a little into the jeep

If you're talking about the XJ with a 4.0, then it would either have the AW4 if it's automatic, or AX-15 if it's manual.

Sorry was talking about the zj it has the 4.0 would there be a tag on the trans?
