A local guy (friend at school) bought a jeep. Set up with a chrystler 8.25 rear. and 30 upfront. He doesnt know about the axles but he is set on those axles with an auto tranny and 38's super swampers. So im on my way to convince him to do an axle swap for a dana 44 up front and a 8.8 in the rear. So i figure, hes new to jeeps. So i will try to get his gears and axles. Hes got this

-ARB air locks front and rear.

If i do ill try to get all of this. What would be a fair asking price? i was thinking 500-600 bucks. Would that be a steal?

You should convince him to run a smaller tire. Is he a hardcore wheeler? Are 38's necessary or just for looks? Does he know what's involved to even fit 38's?

Edit: does the jeep already have the 38's?

I'd give 500 bucks for those axles and lockers in a heartbeat.

Wait, so instead of introducing someone into the sport, you're going to screw him out of his axles?

It's not just in Oregon, from my experience it's everywhere. That's why I have hardly any friends!

Didn't say I was gonna screw him over he's running freakin 38's with stock axles and gears. He doesn't wanna buy new tires cause his mudders are pactically new. I mean from what I've seen and heard an 8.25 should only be used up to a 35. Now come on guys back on topic. What is a fair price to offer him? I will also be helping. Him with his axle swap if that matters. Like I said I'm not screwing him overrun. I'm getting him into wheeling I'm sure if you out wheeling with stock axles and gears your gonna been alot of axle shafts.

You wanna offer him $500-600 for axles with 4.56's and ARB lockers and you aren't screwing him over? Really?!? He can sell his new 38's or take a partial trade for smaller tires and cash... keep his axles and not have to start over with a D44 and a 8.8. Sorry, I don't see this as helping a friend out of anything but money outta his pocket. Why not send him over to CF so he can learn and make up his own mind. This sounds like all you want is a good deal for yourself.

Jezzz nevermind. This thread can be removed as I am getting no help. Also I don't think stock gears are 4.56. And like I said he wants to KEEP his newer 38s not sell them and go smaller so I told him to upgrade his axles here's the scenario. You buy a Jeep with 38s and want to KEEP the big tires but you have stock axles what do you do? I guess I should've asked that.
