Lightbulb What would you do?

Whats up guys, ive been wanting to lift my xj for ever and i hate seeing the back so saggy. I have been doing research on lifts for months and decided between the rustys 3in spring pack or the rough country 3in pack. Im not mechanically inclined and dont have a driveway so i would have to get it installed. I went to a custom shop today and they quoted me 750 for install and wanted me to get the BDS $900 lift. They said the rustys kit would run like **** and that kind of discouraged me. I dont need the best of the best lift. Im a college kid and dont have that sort of money and only wheel like once or twice a month. What would you do in my situation?

Put an ad up on CL, maybe a fellow xj owner can help you out for way cheaper.

the guys at the shop are right the rough country stuff is junk just sitting there will make the stuff sag and ride like junk. i would just buy each peace separate it would only cost a little more but it will be awesome in the end. i had saggy leaf spring they started curving up instead of down i got 3" shocks for the back and it works like a charm. good luck

I'm glad you actually read the OP's post. Shop guys said that the Rusty's kit would be junk. As for your advice, in this case - NO. The OP is tight on funds (like a lot of us right now) and suggesting they spend more money is actually unhelpful. Also, for someone who isn't mechanically inclined, piecing together a lift may not be the best idea as they may not know exactly what to look for/get to make that "awesome" lift you're talking about.

Anyway, to the OP - both Rusty's and RC are good lifts. Granted, they're not the best, but like you said, you don't have the cash for the BDS/OME stuff. Neither do I. When I got my lift I went with Rusty's 3" spring pack and couldn't be happier. It still rides pretty well on the road and does very well off road. I've had it for 2 years and have not a single issue at all - no sagging, no bad bushings, nothing. A lot of RC owners will tell you the same with their lifts. The only thing with RC is that they do tend to ride a bit stiffer than other lifts. The downside to Rusty's is the shipping. Personally, I would talk to Grimmus on here (look in the vendor section for Rough Country winches) and get the RC kit. He can get you a discount for being a CF user. As for installing it, check the neighborhoods section on here and see if some others in your area can help you out with the install. It's a very straight forward process (especially with it being a 3" lift) and there are quite a few guys and gals on here that could definitely help you. Hope this helps.

I have a 3 inch Rough country lift with brand new shocks and control arms. Full leaf packs and front springs have about 3,000 miles on them and only used to wheel a few times. We upgraded the lift to 4.5 inches. If you're interested, you can have the lift and installation for $800 total. AND I'm in Jersey too. Let me know.

Thanks man for your input, definently needed it. Im glad you know what im talking about by not having the funds to get the best lift (i hate school!) lol Im glad to hear positive feedback about your rustys kit. Ive been doing soo much research and its taken alot of time to figure out the kit i want. I will def take your advice and talk to grimmus about the cherokee forum discount
