i'd rather have an MJ, being that you probably aren't gonna be using the back seat of your XJ anyways and an MJ has way more room in the bed.


but, for an XJ the critical parts i'd have are:

roof top tent
4" or so lift
lockers front and rear
33-35s
4.88 gears
winch
on board air or decent electric air compressor
full size spare
provisions for extra fuel carrying
tire repair kit



the roof top tent is probably not totally necessary, but it sure is nice when you don't have to unload all of your gear from the XJ just to sleep. I've done trips where we pull into our next stop at dark and go to sleep shortly after. having the RTT really would've saved some time, especially if you are pitching a tent in the dark.

I am almost wishing i went this route instead of my XJ:
- Expidetion Grand Cherokee built by 4x4TV. Effin cool, not crazy crawlers or anything but nice lift, good sized tires, lockers, etc....

I agree with all of Jajbob's suggestions but I do not agree with the Selectable rear locker, I would have a Selectable front and Rear
i chose selectable for off camber situations, to keep the rear of the truck from sliding away.
