Angry What a way to start a monday.

So on my way to work today, I'm on 93 south traveling about 65 and I hear PING at about exit 5. Wasn't sure what to make of it and as I'm driving I notice my steering is starting to act a tad funky. As in Im starting to have to turn my wheel like an 8th of a turn right to continue to go straight. And then I start to think something definitely isn't right. So I'm approaching exit 1 the Jeep starts to shake and within about 5 seconds of the shaking the my XJ starts to shake like violently. I'm in heavy morning commuter traffic. So I throw on my hazards and pull to the side of the road to find this.

So after swearing like a sailor for a few minutes I bust out the spare. Jack up the rig and get to business. I've had flats before but this, this was brutal. I thought my jeep was going to explode! Anyone else ever go through something like this? On a better note I have an appointment to get 4 new bfg all-terrain ko2s Installed tomorrow. Will post pics

Yikes! How old are those tires? The only time I've had anything like that happen was on some really old tires that had rotted internally.

I'm familiar with 93, used to live in Manchester NH though that was over 30 years ago.

I'm not sure. I bought the Jeep a few months ago. I don't believe the tires are too old. They have decent tread but minor dry rot

When you see a tire that has "minor dry rot", let the air out, pinch the tire where the dryrot cracks are, watch them open up. That should scare one into not running them.

Retreads lead to road gators.

I don't run tires over 4 years old for this exact reason. Especially here in AZ, tires dry rot and blow up.

I believe I hit a piece of road debris. I'll post pics of my other 3 tires so you guys can better judge their condition

I had something similar happen to me last week. Driving down the highway on my way home from work I hear a pop, but it kinda sounded like a rock or something hit the roof so I didn't think much of it. When I got off on the exit I realized it was definitely a flat tire, so I pulled over and jacked it up, pulled to tire off and put on the spare, let the jack down then realized the spare was flat too.
