For the notcher, Jegs racing has one that clams onto the tubing and you use a hole saw blade and drill to cut yournotches at different angles. Its for s weekend warrior types.

The link to your first one is basically a harbor freight cheapie. I have one that I use, but upgraded the bushings and added some spacers to get the hole saw portion centered correctly. Google and you tube search harbor freight tube notcher mods. The second is from Woodward fab, and is a reputable company, better design but more expensive. But between the HF notcher and my portable bandsaw and other tools around the shop, I get by. Depends on how much you wanna use it, if you are doing any type of production work, spend the money and get the better notcher. I plan on upgrading soon as I would like to start doing some side jobs. Hope this helps...

EDIT: This is a link to the one I have been eyeballing. I have one of their benders and am quite happy with it.

Coolness good info... ive seen all the JD models and i dont see myself needed a $500 one but the other two cheaper models i can see me buying... i take it the HF ones done have the bearing which ive seen for sale searching around on ebay so i need to make sure i pick one up with these already. I also need to make sure i buy one i can attach to the pipe and drill there as if im finishing up a tube. Should be easier to get a few angles that way i would think. Some are for drill presses which i have and maybe i should find one i could also use without the drill press...

Thanks again!

surprised theres not more people on this discussion...

course it is in discussion and probly gets kicked to the back fast by BS...

Yeah, do I need a 500 dollar notcher? No. But after using an inferior one, and wanting to upgrade, I figure go ahead and spend the extra money and get a beef one, as I plan on using it to make some side scratch. The HF one uses bushings and not bearings, but I got upgraded bushings for mine on ebay. Like I said, do a google and youtube search on modifying that notcher, with a little work, and not much money, you can have a decent little notcher. The benefit to that style is you can use it in a drill press. The other style you use a hand held drill and clamp to a workbench or table. However...it is a bit beefier, and probably prone to less "chatter" while using.

For notching I just use a pipe master and grinder with a disc

im so tired of burning through discs for my grinder... im also planning on buying a hand held band saw (portasaw) soon... swagfab or whatever makes a nice little table for them now... i have a larger craftsman bench one but its old and has a wood blade in it... i can barely find those at the stores even... i should look into converting it... lol...

The woodward fab one might be a good choice for you, then. They're a decent company with some awesome fab tools, for not an arm and a leg. Check out some of their other stuff, too, you'll be wanting to spend more money with them before you know it! I know I already do...LOL...oh, and I'm about to buy some stuff from SWAG offroad, when I do I'll post or pm you about that experience...from what I've read so far awesome products and great customer service from SWAG....
