What size rims are needed to fit 265's ?? Or 31"?
Hey guys,
So I'm completely new to all of this.. I want to put some new wheels/tires on my Jeep. I saw someone say that they had 265 tires that measured out to be 30.6" tires. Well, my buddy has 265 tires on his 88' Cherokee and I love the look! Eventually I will put a lift, but I'd like to run these for a bit, and I need new tires anyway.. so I might as well, right? But what size rims do I need to fit tires that size? Any stock Jeeps that come wheels that will fit them?
Please help me.. I'm so confused with all this.
Oh, and by the way.. not looking to do any serious off roading.. just want a good, meaty, all terrain tire. So any suggestions for a low cost, good tire would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks all!
Adrian

Peep runs a 7" x 15 stock jeep rim, 31 x 10.5's, 1.25 back spacers to stop rub on the lower control arms at full turn. 3.5" lift, can stuff em under the stock wheel flairs.

The size of the wheel is completely dependent on the tire- saying thier 265's isn't enough, it should be something like 265/75/R16 or something like that, the "R##" part is what you need, that tells you the diameter of the wheel, I recommend a 15" wheel, it has the greatest variety of tires available to it, it seems.
For example, if a tire is 265/75/R16, you need 16" wheels, if it says 265/75/R15, you need 15" wheels. But I recommend just going with 31" tires, it's just so much easier to say your tires are 31".

I know I want 15" rims.. I just want to know how wide the rim has to be to fit a 31" tire. And what tire is equivalent to a 31" tire.. 265/75/15 ?? Or is it bigger? Does anyone know how wide the rim of my 95' Cherokee sport is? It currently sits on 225/15's.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I believe most stock XJ wheels are 15x7.
Rule of thumb when mounting tires is the tire should be no more than 4 inches wider than the wheel for standard size wheel/tire packages.
Example: a 15x7 Wheel can have a 30x9.50R15 or 31x10.50R15 tire mounted on it, since the difference between the 7" wheel and the 9.50" or 10.50" is less than 4" total. The next common tire size, a 33x12.50R15 (Or even a 32x11.50R15), would require at least a 15x8 inch wheel to be mounted on, as your difference between the 7" wide wheel and 12.50" wide tire is now greater than 4".
You will experience different side wall flex with different width tires on the same wheel, so some of it does come down to taste and preference.
As for your tire size, a 31x10.50R15 is equivalent to a metric 267/76/15, which obviously doesn't exist, so265/75R15 would be the closest Metric size available.
