What should I pay?
Sooo I found a 2000 Cherokee with 133k miles, 4.5" lift (not sure if its RE or Rough Country) on 33s with 4.56 gears already installed and from what I can tell, it's in pretty good shape, runs good, and the 4x4 works good. The asking price is $5500 and I was just wondering what you guys think I should pay for it if it's as good as it seems. Thanks

Not having anything to go by other than your description, I'll say $3-4k, depending on what kind of condition its in.
I wouldn't buy something already lifted personally, and I wouldn't be willing to pay as much for a lifted Jeep as I would for a stock Jeep. Being modified makes it worth less to me, it could have been wheeled hard and abused. And if you build something yourself, you'll know its been built right.
That's just me though, use your own judgment, but I'd rather start with a clean slate than take on somebody else's build.

I'm with him find you a clean virgin xj and build it up your way.I hate to say it but the xj is kinda the civic of the 4x4 world and a lot of them get rigged together,And once you bought it its your problem to fix anything you find done wrong.

$3500, maybe $4000 if it was clean and the tires were pretty new.
There are plenty of deals on lifted rigs out there and there are just as many mall crawlers out there as stock beaters. If you can't inspect and judge aftermarket parts you probably can't inspect and judge a stock vehicle either. There's no reason to pass up a good deal just because it's already modified, especially when it can save you money in the long run.

As long as everything was done right, and not hacked together $5000 really isn't that bad for a 2000 with 4.56 gearing... If you're not familiar with suspension and solid axles I would suggest taking in somewhere and having it looked at prior to making an offer.

Depends on your location. Check NADA for blue book value. I wouldn't add value for mods, if anything that would lower the value a bit for me, but I won't buy "modded" cars that I want to be able to rely on because chances are they have been beat on.

I don't agree with the logic, don't buy anything modified. That being said inspect it or have a professional do it, make sure it isn't trashed but if everything is in good shape the math makes more sense to buy modified. If a stock jeep is 3k and a lifted jeep with 33's gears lift etc can be had for 4k it would cost you a lot more then a grand in parts, let alone labor to get the stock jeep where you want it..............Of course that being said make sure its mechanically sound and not a bucket of crap with expensive parts.

Yup. Dad bought a 2001, nice and beautiful stock, over a modified 96. So, price of car + head + new engine when the cam seized. I told him 96, he didn't listen.

When they are stock, they are chick cars. Don't want a flame war from that but, that's what it is. Who knows if that girl took care of it?? Sometimes modifying shows pride, meaning the owner liked it enough to drop money into it, therefore likes it enough to take care of it.
