What should I do with my beater XJ?
Hello fellow Cherokee'ers!
I'm unsure of what to do with my XJ...
Here's the story:
It is my first vehicle and like all very first rides, despite your love and care for it, you always end up crashing it and beating it up accidentally.
Now it's beat up to the point where it's not street legal anymore. It runs fine but the unibody got bent in the rear so if I crash or get crashed in, my insurance probably won't cover me because the integrity of my car was already compromised prior to this hypothetical crash.... unahmsayin?
Therefore I've decided to buy another XJ, real cool etc etc, should be getting it next week.
But what should I do with the first one? Here are my options:
1) Keep it and take it out for wheeling only.
2) Turn it into an art car (would become a mad max-style / post-apocalyptic XJ).
3) Combine 1) and 2).
4) Sell it while I can and get 800-something euros out of it (risky because the buyer could find out about the bent unibody).
5) Sell the parts.
6) Sell it to a junkyard.
7) A buddy of mine said I could get a farmer to crash into me with his tractor, the insurance wouldn't see the older crash and give me around 1500€ (though I'm unsure about how this really works...)
8) Turn it into a hardcore trail rig (though that would be out of my budget for a while)
I think I have collected all the options I thought of and people told me about... Obviously there are many more that you can suggest...
What do you think? What should I do? I personally like #3...

Get a farmer to crash into you with his tractor and post it on Youtube. Make sure he is drunk so they make him at fault and its his insurance that pays for the accident.

I like option #3.
Don't try to sell it without telling the buyer about the unibody damage. That's shady.
Don't have a farmer crash into it for insurance, that's insurance fraud. That's a crime.

What I thought too! :-)
So Yeah, the first Mad Max-style Cherokee project will be underway! Let's hope it's ends up cool! First off I need to get it to rust!! Or at least scrape off the paint!
But that's another story... Thanks for your help people!

2 is cool but don't end up spending so much on it that your new XJ gets neglected or you'll end up with 3 XJs, 2 of which are post apocalyptic money pits

Somewhat, but they're more ideas than anything else so no real updates so far. All I did to it was but some big tires, changed the rims and cut the fenders. Here's how he looks right now.
My rear fender trim job got pretty ugly because I cut really high up. Some sheet metal got exposed and now some surface rust is starting to appear. Which actually follows my initial plan...
I'm also looking for a talented artist to sketch a concept of the XJ with the following ideas:
1) Scrape the paint off to make the whole body rusty.
2) Replace the bent front bumper with a piece of U-beam, reweld the small brush guard and add extra bars for more strength. I also plan on adding tow points to it and a chain to make it look really aggressive.
3) Make a straight pipe side exhaust to liberate that diesel (but with the unibody construction that seems pretty impossible...)
My sources of inspiration are:
1) This "desert storm" Cherokee,
2) this stylized sedan I saw at Gamescom last year,
3) Any of the Mad Max vehicles...
4) The cars from the movie "Death Race".
One of my biggest problems however is access to scrap metal and a welder... I'd hate to have to buy a U-beam and rent a welder for this job! Plus I don't know how to weld at all...

Deliberately crashing a vehicle for insurance money is fraud and could land you in jail or a hefty fine and you will be flagged.
Also posting about the thought/plan online for all the world to see is pretty down right stupid.
I can't let thread thread ride as per rules of CF.
