I am with this guy. Have the body checked otherwise you could be dealing with a lot of issues.

Strokers are sweet cause they keep it Jeep, but a 350 will make a ton more power, easier then a stroker.

You don't need a small block if you do it right and regear the axles, there shouldn't be much you can't get through

I still want to see a picture of the hole in the block with the distributor cap in the cylinder.

How'd all of this happen? Did you not have motor mounts? Did you let it run for 20 minutes on it's side?

4.0... Just put a 4.0 back in it and keep going.

I'll post a picture when I get home, but I had a cracked motor mount so when it rolled the block slammed against the body and that's where the hole came from

Well this motor was a 4.7 stroker so that's where I'm stuck deciding. Make another stroker or just buy the bigger engine!

with a stroker motor you have plenty of power. Any more than that is just overkill. Power just goes to waste if you don't have the right gear. But that's just my opinion.

Or turbo/supercharge it. Long off into the future I dream of doing that to my motor

But I said that mostly for laughs.

Everyone says that the 4.0 is pretty much "bullet-proof." I'd stick with it. Keep it Jeep (I have nothing against Chevy, but I'm a Dodge guy - my other car is a '76 power Wagon). (I always have wondered about a 318 swap though).
I like the 4.0 and wish they'd bring it back. it's fairly simple to work on, if you keep up with maint., it'll last and it's a Jeep motor. Mine has over 278,000 miles on it and has never been rebuilt yet. I have another motor in my old XJ that got totaled and I am planning on stroking it when it's time for a rebuild in my current XJ.

I'm a Mopar guy too, but I do like the Chevy LS line of engines.

I thought I missed a thread somewhere describing how the guy was texting and driving or something. Haha.
