What running gear on 97 model
I'm looking at a 97 4x4. I know some came with different trannys, axles, etc. What running gear came on the 97 automatic? Can I pick a better year?

the auto behind the 4.0 was always the same. AW4, good trans. Will last a really long time as it sits in the jeep, but will do better with a cooler, they like to run hot.
Get non-ABS, youll end up with the 8.25 rear.
Front diff was always the same, Dana 30.
AW4/4.0 is a good combo, Many go over 300k. Im at 280 right now.

97-99 are the nicest inside and have the best running gear in an none ABS rig
4.0 HO AW4 auto or AX15 5 speed get the NP231 t-case (2h 4h 4low no 4 full time) and the C8.25 out back with 29 spline shafts is a very good combo to start with

Awesome. This one has 4.5 RE lift w/ 33s. Looks to be in good condition. Not sure of mileage but its listed at $3500. Sounds like I may need to ****** this year up.
