What is a reasonable price for my Jeep?
What is a reasonable price for my Jeep? I've had it for a couple years, the main reason I'm selling it is because the doors and the windows are an inconvenience, ironically the doors were an attraction for me when I was buying it.
The passenger window doesn't work at all, the driver window scrubs. It had the cracked cylinder head problem, which has been fixed with a new cylinder head. I'm working on fixing the A/C, and planning on doing a heater core flush. I just replaced the transfer case main shaft because it was bent, the drive shaft has been checked by a driveshaft shop and nothing is wrong with it. I'm currently working on correcting the driveline angles.

I feel like $4000 is a reasonable deal considering how much work is in it, and the ridiculous prices these Jeeps go for sometimes. I'm not about to lose 50% of what I have in it just to get rid of it, I'll keep it before I do that, I'm sure everybody else would do the same. A $600 cylinder head isn't "general maintenance".

Value isn't determined by what you dropped into it.
You need to see what the market is in your area. Price accordingly. Have you looked at book value in your area? Perused CL to see what similar vehicles are going for?
Face it, you have a used ride...you are NEVER going to get out of it what you put into it, unless you get lucky and find that one guy who just HAS to have it. You won't find that if you price yourself out of the market.
Area determines a lot...that ride near me would go for as much as 5-6k all day long, but I live in the overinflated state of Kommiefornia. People here are idiots, LOL

And you can't say your losing. At the time it was needed. You can't add parts that you replaced to your varying price. It doesn't work that way. And quite honestly, you don't have too much work into it.

A person selling a car can ask anything they want but it don't mean its gonna sale for that tho. Those 8k and higher xjs you see on the market end up sitting on the market for a long time.I just looked up the blue book on it where i live,Its max worth on there is 2,381 bucks and the lowest is 1,733.

I agree with all the other guys. I'm on the app so I can't see your location. Location is the most important variable in Xj prices. I'm in SC and rust free jeeps can be had for cheap. In the salt belt the same Xj will bring a premium. I offered $2,500 only because I'm looking for a clean 2-door for my daughter, and most of the two door jeeps around here have been beat down. Just find out what they're going for in your area, and set your price with negotiation room in mind. Good luck with the sale hope you get what your wanting.

Look at it this way. If you bought it for $3000, and then the head cracked, it was then worth $1000, maybe $1500 at most, and you had an unrealized loss. Then you sunk $600 into correcting the problem to make it worth $3000 again.
So while it's not exactly general maintenance in the sense of oil changes and spark plugs, it was a necessary repair to bring it back to its full potential value. You don't get credit for all the money you sink into your Jeep over the years to keep it roadworthy. If we did, mine would be worth $50K to $60K, since I bought it new for $30K and recently put a stroker in it in addition to all the other work done on it in the past 16 years.
Your best bet is to ignore all your expenditures and plug in your Jeep's info and your zip code into Edmunds or KBB to see what the book value is in your area. If you inflate your price too high above the average, you'll have a hard time selling it.

Kbb says excellent condition for your Jeep is $2600 in my area. I agree with what others are saying. My Jeep is at it's value for the area and I've put a bunch into it. Shame it wouldn't act right for that $7k. Would have been a steal for you. I doubt another sucker like that is going to come again but there's "one born every minute..."
All that said and still not hearing it run, I definitely think it's worth what your area's going rate is. Assuming no undercarriage rust. The fact that it's a '99 and a two-door may add value to your local Jeep community hunter but probably not another $2500
