Default what offset and how to measure it?

so a guy is selling some steel wheels that are the right bolt pattern for my heep. there 15x8 but he doesnt know the offset. i have some 31x10.50's to put on them but what offset will i need to work and not rub when i turn? or what is the ideal offset? and how do i measure it?

They will be at least 4 inches offset, and you'll be good. You can run 31s on a 3 inch lift with the stock rims that have 5.25 inch BS

i thought if you had stock wheels they would rub on the lca's?
