My xj has the stock 235 tires on it with the stock rims. Anyone know how big of a tire I can go on those rims. Thanks

I disagree. A 33x15.5x15 isn't gonna mount up. Even a 12.50 tire is stretching it. A 10.5"-11.5" wide tire will mount decently. Supposed to keep within 3" of your wheel width. Wider tires on narrow wheels will pop off rim at a higher pressure than a properly matched set.

depends on what stock rim.
personally, i wouldn't go with more than a 30x9.5 on a stock steel rim.
if you had canyon rims, or moab rims, maybe a 31x10.5.

You don't say if your vehicle is lifted, so I will give you the pat answer regarding stock suspensions. A 235 will not rub, a 30" might at full steering lock positions, anything bigger will rub for sure.
For tire width limits on lifted vehicles, check with Tire Rack or other vendors for the biggest size you can get away with. If this effort is for offroading, get the right wheel size for the tire you want to use and avoid a blowout during articulation.

I've had 31" LTBs on several stock suspension xjs with stock rims & wheeled the dog **** out of em, blasted down thousands of miles across multi states without a problem. Even wheeling down to 7-8lbs of pressure with ever blowin a bead.
