I hve a 1991 jeep Cherokee Laredo auto tranny i6 4.0l Dana 30 up front not sure on rear axle... If I have the 35 what gearing and if I have the 8.25 what gearing do I have??? Help!!!

Gearing

3.07 - used with 4.0L engine / manual transmission
3.31 - only available on older (pre87?) 2 door XJs with "Fuel Economy" package
3.55 - used with 4.0L engine / automatic transmission
3.73 - found in some XJs with the towing package
4.10 - used with 2.5L engine usually, and older XJs with the "Off-Highway Vehicle" package.

 

I have a tow package so 373?? Bit idk if the tow package is original....

Should help you identify rear end, If you take the diff cover off you can look on the ring gear and there will be a list of numbers take the last 4 numbers and divide the first 2 by the second 2 and will give you your ratio. A 3.73 ratio will read 41 11 as the last 2 numbers (41\11=3.727272) hope this helps.

 

It says "some" XJ's...

look for a tag on the front axle or look for a stamps on the diff housings.

 

Where on the front axle does it say gear ratio??

 

On the tag on the pumpkin, which is probably un-readable (mine was). They cant just put it on the axle because the axle housed so many different ratios. If you cant read the tag or take the diff cover off all I can do is guess and I say 3.55:1.
