Default What The Duck?

I found a funky surprise when I returned to my Jeep after taking a walk along a beach south of Boston yesterday.
Someone had "gifted" me with three patriotic rubber ducks on my hood/cowling - one red, one white and one blue, each with stars on them.

As I sat and pondered the possible source and/or meaning of the items, a woman approached and said "It looks like somebody liked your Jeep" and I told her I didn't understand.
A Jeep owner herself, she said it's become a local practice, that I should watch for other Jeeps with rubber ducks on their dashboards and that it's now common for Jeepsters to gift one another with these duck tokens in a "pay it forward" manner.

Please, educate me on this (seriously, if you know then give me some background here)? Was she serious? Is this real? Is there a new culture emerging in Jeepdom or am I being pranked?

Now when I'm driving around my area I'm looking for rubber duckies in passing Jeeps. I was content with the "Jeep wave". Should I limit my Jeep waves to Jeep-duck owners?

Your either in the duck game or not. I personally could care less about the duck trend but if it makes your day then cool points for you.

The Jeep "Ducking" trend was started by one woman who just recently passed away. There was a story online about it. It's generally popular with Wranglers and Gladiators, but not so much our Cherokees and Grand Cherokees. Of course, maybe we can change that.

Anyway, you're supposed to "Duck" a Jeep whenever you like theirs, and it's kind of like giving them a compliment. That's why they gave you additional ducks: keep one, and "Duck" with the others.

I don't get it but whatever.
Seeing how my first jeep over 50 years ago was a '46 CJ2A this kind of sums it up for me though.

I wasn't. I'm more of a jeep wave guy. One that will help when you're broke-down stranded on a trail. Even if you've an MJ full of flowers, stuffed animals and barbie dolls, I won't judge. That's His job.

My questions were answered by someone with a better attitude, thank you. Now I know what the duck thing is all about. I still prefer seagulls and I know how to make them leave really big, messy gifts on your jeep, then I smile big and wave!

Like you, I've been in it a long time. I think you replied because you care, but you can deny it all you want. Just remember, it's more obvious every time you reply. And watch out for my trained seagull 👋

I appreciate your "educkating" me on this new trend, Vince (or 94zj318). May she rest in peace, whoever she was.

I hope I didn't run "afowl" of forum rules or offend any other highly respected members of our community (ralph77) with my razor sharp wit or terrible puns (the lowest form of humor).

I'll wave at or help any other Jeepster without exclusion, it's only right that I should extend a ducky of appreciation to other deserving Jeeps/owners. It's silly but light-hearted fun, I guess I will get in on it, extending the practice to all models.
