Thumbs up Replaced Leak prone Chrysler fittings

Best transmission mod: Parker 14 X 1.5 metric thread Hose Barb (MSC part 80258445), hose clamps, about 3" of 3/8" fuel line. A small 6mm wrench to tighten the clamps where a screw driver will not reach. NO need to cut the lines.

Chrysler's bad design regurgitated by Doorman

Parker's fitting

installed - no more leaks!

Yesterday, I went and picked up my XJ that's been sitting at my parents' house in Knoxville since August and brought it back home with me 118 miles away in Asheville. It was driven around a few times since then but for the most part, it sat getting covered in leaves and spiders.

Took the spare tire and jack off the roof since I didn't have anything inside and cleaned off the leaves and spider webs, got gas and hit the road listening to Fugazi, the truckers on the CB, the Bighorns and a healthy 4.0. Didn't stop once and kept up with traffic without issue. I will say, you can't be afraid of RPM with 4.56s 33s and a stick.

Now I'm basking in the glory that is my driveway. Saabaru included!

So this is a "What I Learned Today" post rather than a "What Did I Do Today" post.
I pride myself on being pretty good with knowing models, options, and whatnot for '97 to '01 XJ's.
Maybe not so much. LOL.
Well I came across IMO what is the coolest thing.
They have this XJ with what is called the Endeavour Package. Looks like it might be a Switzerland thing.
All I have a couple shots of the interior and this one shows the most. Supposedly this is a '99.

Screw putting in a WJ wood grain steering wheel. I want that one.
The E-Brake and shifter handles. The heated seat switch and tranny shifter bezel.
I want all that.
I am pretty good at sourcing parts but this might prove challenging.
I did find this but it is weird cause the heater control in the picture above does not look to be wood grain.

And I am pretty sure none of that wood grain is stick on.
All of it is like the wood grain radio bezel in a Limited.
Until 20 minutes ago I did not even know this existed. LOL.

want to update the nankang ft7 situation. long story short, i got lazy and left the tires on, i put 68k miles on them so far. they are basically hocky pucks at this point. very loud and ride terribly. however, they are all from the original set, maybe 10 tire plugs altogether in the 4. no issues. 8/32 tread still left on them.

i removed them to put some firestone winterforce 2 tires on for this cold season. i'll prob end up putting them back on next spring. the nankangs are on turbine wheels while the snow tires are on the stock steel wheels.

I'm building a hitch gate for my XJ and got it to the point that it's semi functional this afternoon. I still have some fab work, finish welding, painting, etc. to do but it's getting there. The only thing I plan to add to the back is a fold down or more likely a fold up table.

So today my Melling oil pump FINALLY came in!
Got it mounted up cleaned out the oil pan ONE more time, got it bolted down torqued to spec, added oil, started to prime the engine.................. AND OH CRAP!
I forgot to install a plug where the oil sending unit goes!
I had oil all over my leg, and the floor of the garage.
DANG IT! I am sooooo so blonde sometimes!

Anyways.................... Oil pumped up, torqued down my valve cover, and the engine is now ready to install.

HAHA!
I just have to do a bunch of work still to the engine bay before that lil 4 banger goes in.

A good "inch pounds" torque wrench is needed for so many things.

Poor Millwaukie drill

Oil on deck!

she be ready now!

I will, need to get back working on it. Still have a bunch of things to do on her. Inside is almost finished, need to do the rocker panel on drivers side. In the spring then get ready for paint.

Default Silenced 2001 cold engine piston slap \ lifter knock!

I had the very common cold engine knock but was getting concerned that it was getting worse. It was coming from the block and I thinking 75% likely piston slap 30% lifter.

As a “worth a try effort” I did a motor medic engine oil flush thinking getting rid of some sludge might help get oil to somewhere it wasn’t getting to. Then I added STP ceramic oil treatment with the new oil thinking it might hold off complete piston failure.

THE KNOCK IS COMPLETELY GONE! I wouldn’t think piston slap can be cured completely so maybe it was lifter noise?
