Today I'm in the middle of the Durango gear box swap. I got her in yesterday with some help from a buddy but I think I accidentally reversed the high and low pressure lines so I am going back in there to fix that in a minute.
New radiator and electric fans arrived in the mail also. Looks great but now I'm waiting on a few more parts before that install.

Love this idea! I made the mistake of driving with my hood unlatched. Now I need a new hood, so I’ll add these when I install the new hood. I also finally wired my fog lamps through a relay—previous owner direct wired their switch to the load circuit. Hate the incandescents, so I’m waiting on some H3 LEDs from Amazon, then I’ll post a photo.
These 4.0's run HOT. I've looked at all kinds of louvers - letting hot air out, while stopping water from coming in, is as elusive as finding one I'm willing to live with. Has anybody found one they'd recommend? For now, it's JULY, so my stop gap effort is a hood spacer from Rock Star. It reduces the temperature gage by 10 to 15 degrees in 90-degree weather - hopefully enough to keep under hood electronics happy :
Yes - It looks like the hood isn't closed - but I can let heat out till fall - then remove them for cooler weather - Hopefully, I'll find a louver by next spring

New cylinder head
Here is what I did to my Jeep Cherokee this weekend. I can't believe I actually got this brand new head for $295 plus $100 core free shipping to my house and I will get the $100 back when they get my old head I'll send pictures here show you what I've done
Actually painted the valve cover and send it to little fin part make it look aluminum and then repainted the intake manifold and my fuel rail but the fuel rail didn't turn out too good.
Here is the new head 7120 casting number supposedly the best flowing head in this era
Here is the head I was talkin about that I got for $295 with a $100 core
Another picture of the new head

* We purchased metal ones since I wanted to face no dissimilar metal corrosion.
We also love our Morimoto H4's with projector lenses the PO installed (dangerously).
They had six feet of power wire before a fuse was placed. :/

I built some cross rails for my roof rack so I can mount an awning and carry my kayak. I also put on a "period correct" sticker. Ontario came up with this slogan in the early '80s. I remember these being on all kinds of vehicles back then. I was surprised when I found one at a flea market a few years ago.

The size of mine is 6.5' x 6.5' and it seems about right for an XJ. I had a larger one (9' x 9'?) from SmittyBilt. I never installed it but in my opinion it was too large (long) for an XJ. The quality was decent but not having seen an ARB up close I can't compare them. I'm sure the ARB would be better. The quality of this one is surprisingly good and appears to be manufactured by the same supplier of the SmittyBilt awnings. The fabric is lighter than the SmittyBilt but similar to other awnings I have that have stood up well. It went up and folded up easily and everything fit well. A minor thing but the guy wires are the best I've seen on similar things I've bought. It has what appears to be a Keder rail on the front edge. If so, I can add a front tarp to it (I'll try).
Here's a video of the NAPA awning I mentioned - MaxiTrac from NAPA. This guy seems pretty happy with it and he said that ARB tarps, annexes, etc. can be attached to it.
I had my XJ up to about 75 mph and it made no noise at all. I haven't used it yet and I may have a different opinion of it in a few weeks but ... so far so good.
Here's what it looks like when folded up. The larger one I had would have been too far in front of the windshield.

Looks easy enough to do, only problem my 94 SE has no roof rack at all. Would have to rig up a gutter mount for it.

Spent most of the day fighting with the transmission cooler return line while swapping out radiators. In the end I decided to introduce it to Mr. Sawzall. Then I noticed that the new flare is much larger than the unit it is replacing so the only timely thing to do is cut the rubber line and make hose clamp connections. I am betting that the low pressure line will be ok. Replacing the hard line from the tranny on back doesn't look like an option due to the size change.
I was going to attempt it with some vacuum line I had laying around and then thought better of it due to the heat from the tranny fluid so I ordered some 3/8 fuel line, fuel line clamps, and assorted other odds and ends from the local big box store for pickup in the morning. I have one of the 3 electrical fans hooked up to a the aux fan switch I have already run to the cab, and the others will be on a thermo switch and controlled by it. I am already impressed with the CFMs of the one fan that is connected and as long as the wiring is done correctly I should have better cooling than with the mechanical fan hands down.
The new power steering pump and pulley went on without a hitch. It was ridiculously expensive to find one online that had the pulley attached, but I ate one and ordered it. Seems to work a lot better than the OEM unit which had seen 260K miles.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.

....was a little tickled today after filling up the jeep... so decided to share... Ran the tank down to a little under a quarter left... filled up.. ran my numbers (as I usually do, let's me know how the jeep is running)....
And on mostly IN town driving.....averaged right in a 19 MPG. I did my numbers again just to make sure. I usually only hit those numbers and above when I'm on a long highway road trip with her.
19 in town with a 22 year old "4.0L brick".... I'll take that every day with this old girl....
