Yea prob not missing much. Now to find another 3" kit or say screw it, as 4.5" kits seem to be easier to find.

Mind the explosion of tools but I got the front axle pulled out of my rig today. Felt nice!

Yesterday I finished up the fuel pump in my daily and cleaned the tree sap from EVERYWHERE.

Next up will be the headliner, getting the AC working again, and finally getting rid of the NY plates...

So today we are going to putz around with the door some more. Rust on the inside.
Instead of sanding and wire brushing I decided to try something a little less invasive.
So the Evapo-Rust I like comes in a gel too. Just like naval jelly. But without being harmful to paint.

So I figure we will use that in these spots.

And the naval jelly here.

And we shall see how we make out.

So they say to leave it on for an hour or 2. Maybe longer if necessary. And also do it again if necessary.
They also say that if it hardens a soft brush and water is all you need.
After a 1/2 hour.

So I figure at about 1 1/2 hours I will do the naval jelly on the inside cause they say only about 15 minutes on that.
At 2 hours wash it off and see where I stand.

So in the mean time figure I would putz around with another project. I want the wood grain door panels. But in Camel they are
not 2 tone like mine. All Camel. So somebody used this to paint interior pieces. It is called Chrysler Agate. But I think it
will not be black enough to match what my not Limited 2 tone door panels look like. Hey I have extra parts so I can try it though.

So I gotta tell you as somebody who literally has the worst rattle can skills on the planet the stuff lays down nice.
I mean my skills are so bad that my friend says I should not be allowed to operate any rattle can containing any kind of paint. LOL.
Followed the instructions. Misted the first 2 coats and went a little more on the last too.

But as I feared not dark enough to match the insets on my two tone door panels.
And I don't think I can live with it but this was expected so....

And if I find something to use I will be painting the inset while on the door panel so it won't be quite as simple.
So think I will go roaming around the SEM site and see what I come up with.

So after 2 hours the gel toned it down but some rust is still there.
Before and after.

This one kinda looks worse and better at the same time.
Still before and after.

The naval jelly worked and also did not really work.

I did not do a before shot here but not noticing any difference.

So the naval jelly is old. My buddy gave it to me sometime ago and it was not new. And it stays liquid so it can run.
The Evapo-Rust does not. I am blaming some of this on user error.
Plus I think some got on the outer panel of the door and actually brought out some rust spots at the bottom edge.
I can't get a clear enough picture to show you.
So I redid a couple small sections and the outside of the door at the bottom.
Literally going to let it dry and sit overnight. Thinking while the door can be saved not by me.
Thinking go gut the driver's door and drag them down to see my guy to see what he thinks.

I got most of the interior cleaned up and reinstalled. Still need to figure out where to wire in the heated seats.

That stuff looks better than I figured it would. Was the insert still soft?

It did not feel "plasticy". They are not really soft to begin with. It felt a little smoother then its unpainted counterpart.
But that is to be expected. You can still see all the detail, the little lines, in the painted piece.
This was what I used as per the suggestion of a fellow forum member.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G6ILI24/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G6ILI24/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But I only paid $13.17 for it. Was almost a year ago though. Now I am noticing it is almost $20.

So I really like your seats. Covers? Different seat? What is going on there?

As far as the seat heaters go talking aftermarket?
Do you have a power seat(s)?
I want to say most guys wire the aftermarket ones into the cigarette lighter.
If you don't have power seats I always wondered about wiring them into the power seat harness.
I put factory power/heated seats in my '00 that did not come with them.
Some of the harness for them is not there. But part of it is.
Goes as far as under the passenger seat in my '00.
I always wondered if you got the silver circuit breaker that goes in the Junction box, I think #26,
if you could wire them up to that connector.

So I rinsed off the Evapo-Rust gel. After being on there for almost 24 hours.
It did take more of the rust off but not all of it.
And it did do something to the paint on the door.
Maybe it can be buffed out.
In their defense while on Amazon it says safe on most painted surfaces their website does not say that.
I can feel all these little rust spots at the bottom of the door.
I thought they were in better shape but still way better then what I am running.
Which is why I tried cause more then a good detailing is going to be needed with these doors.
So this was a bust. Oh well.

I couldn't tell exactly what it was from that last pic but I have seen stuff like that. It's crazy to me that you can basically just paint a seat and it not rub off or chip I guess it should last anywhere else if that's the case.

They are Corbeau Sport seats. They were a splurge but class it up and gives it that new car leather smell. Hope they outlast the Jeep though.

The stock ones were not power. I had heaters installed on the new ones. They just need power and a ground. They have the switchs and everything already wired up. I did see that plug under the passenger side. I kinda figured it might be for the power ones but I haven't checked it because I need to get a new meter. I don't know what happened to mine. I'll have to check in the JB to see about the silver thing lol. I don't think it should be to hard but I don't want to burn the Jeep up hooking into the wrong thing.

I lied. The silver circuit breaker you need has to be in Slot # 29 in the Junction Box. 25 amp. If the Jeep did not come with a driver's power or both seats power and heated then the slot will be empty.

Like I said always wondered if you could do that. If possible have to figure it would be better then splicing into the cigarette lighter wiring.

Also the heated seats in an XJ are kind of messed up. They are not pads. The heating element is incorporated into the seat cover.
When the dealership had to fix a heated seat bottom they replaced the whole cover. Obviously can't find them anymore.
So I always wondered if you could hook up heating pads from an aftermarket set to the factory harness and use factory switches.

Thanks for the help. I will check for that after work. I know the plug under the seat has 2 wires that run to the JB and one ground in the bundle grounds under the seat.
