After 5 years of being jealous of the wife's '01 XJ Sport, and countless hours of "casually" checking listings on car sites, craigslist and anywhere else I could think of to look, I finally found one I simply could not pass up, an '89 XJ Laredo! It's been meticulously maintained and garage kept, so, even though it has miles on it (180k), there is no rust (miraculous for a 30 year old vehicle of any kind in Wisconsin) and everything works. Everything. And, because everything works and she is super clean and 100% stock, I've run into a bit of a dilemma -- nothing much to do to it. So, yesterday I replaced the factory speakers (factory radio/cassette player is being replaced this afternoon) and installed a new cup holder, as I discovered that the older XJs inexplicably didn't come with one.
Here are a couple of pics of it the day I got it:

Installed the new fuel pump today; well actually i took it to my mechanic, did not want to deal with the fuel tank and evwrything involved and for $200.00 job done. I already got rid of the priming and cranking to start. Now my push to start button and remote start works flawlessly.

So the weather is kind of looking like it might rain so I figured I would putz around with a few things.
2 days ago when coming home from work my driver's window decided it did not want to roll up. Being to lazy to mess with it at that time I went to go grab a tarp, gotta love the free HF ones, and when I was going to put it on decided to give the window one last try. Of Course it worked and has since. At first I was thinking the regulator might have crapped out again. When I first bought the Jeep the window would not stop when all the way up. It would keep on trying to go up. Little worm gear in the regulator gets stripped. I just bought a new Napa one. Which I believe to be a Dorman one. First one lasted about 6 months. Warrantied that one and this one has been in for well over 5 years. Well now I am leaning towards wiring. But when I still thought it was the regulator I had this idea of using my old motor on the Dorman regulator. I even have an extra one in the 4 doors I picked up for $100 awhile back.
Who makes Jeep regulators/motors? Both the old one from my Jeep and the one out of the spare door says Denso on the motor. The white tag on the regulator is faded so.... And there are no other Mopar markings that I can see.
Decided to pull of the motor from the spare door one and boy can it get dirty in there.
Not sure if the spare door one works right. I put power directly to the motor while still in the spare door and it worked but seemed like it still wanted to run when going up. Can't be sure maybe the worm gear might be stripped in that one too.
Also playing with mine that still decided it wants to work I noticed that for the last inch when going up that it almost appears the window is binding ever so slightly.
So on a nicer day will go in there and check that plus wiring and see if anything jumps out at me.
Also have been curious about door handles. Mine are kind of faded. I always wondered what one looked like and how it was put together. Thinking if I spayed them would like to take the plunger part out of the handle before doing so. Also I have this really stupid idea of bedlining them.
Well they come apart really easy.
Also something that I have been meaning to do for about 6 years now. It always bugged me how that upper radiator hose kind of rubs on the battery. Well finally got around to dealing with that.

So the rain held off still. Decided to get to something that was quick and easy.
The door locks in my '00 work like 98% of the time. When they don't work they will sometimes work 10 minutes later.
My understanding is that the locks operate from the passenger side switch.
Since it happens so infrequently I don't think it is wiring. But......
So since I have about 4 extras I decided to take one apart to see what it looked like inside.
Pretty much what you would expect except maybe the 2 little relays.
So I cleaned up the extra switches with some electronic cleaner and installed one.
Everything works for the time being.
Basically going to be a wait and see what happens deal.
