So the running board install is finished except for a screw that goes into the collar at each end of the running board. It just screws into the fender flare and frankly I have no desire to remove each tire to drill one small hole. Plus I am going to use a spring clip and small stainless steel bolt at each corner. October maintenance is almost due. One of the things I do is wash and wax the Jeep for the coming winter. I only remove the tires to clean them thoroughly as part of April maintenance but figure I will remove them in October and just wait to do the collars then.
So the question is what do to next. Roof skid strips? Extend my tranny and transfer case breathers into the engine compartment? Already did the rear diff one. See if I can get my spoiler on so water does not leak through the third eye? Cause that is about it except for October maintenance. It was a pretty productive year. If I get those three things above the only thing that I did not get done this year was the sound deadening of the floor. And it still could happen. I have one week of vacation time still and as some of you probably know I refer to my vacation time as "Project Jeep Week".
Of course you haven't seen my list of next years projects yet.
Started my heater core replacement today. Since the XJ is not my daily driver, I'm going to pick at it between other commitments. As you can see, I had a lousy helper today. Still, I got as far as getting the HVAC box out without any trouble. Hopefully my luck continues.

Same here. I sprayed the back half of the Jeep and ran out of Fluid Film, have to order some more for that and the other vehicles.
I use about a 1/2 gallon when I do my '00. Of course some of that is because I am on the ground on my back or stomach spraying. Sure some parts get more then others under there but I gunk mine good.
You need to drive on a dusty road now. I will be Fluid Filming in a couple weeks.
Right, I have it done at Carrara's Hot Oil Rustproofing in VT. 10 miles of dirt road back to pavement. They drill holes in rockers, and hatch, doors, and inside 1/4 panels (wherever black plugs show up in photos). They also spray inside frame rails. Jeep smokes for a hundred miles or so but the exhaust last longer. I take the xj over once a year and have found no rust on him yet. My 1947 Dodge pickup was oiled since new. I sold it in 1992 with no rust. Not bad for northern NY.

I did not realize you had it done professionally. I just assumed you did the used motor oil/diesel fuel thing. I just put sound deadening material in all my doors, hatch, and rear quarters. Since I had everything apart to do that I Fluid Filmed in all those places before I put it back together. I might have to drill some holes in the appropriate places so I can Fluid Film in those places yearly. Thanks for the idea.

I'm in CNY, and I try to tell my friends that care about their cars to do this and it is amazing the level of resistance that I encounter (I don't care enough to argue about it with them). I tell them do Rust Check, do Fluid Film, do spent oil. Just do something. Only a tiny few of them have actually read up on it, and decided to do it. The rest drive rust buckets.
I personally chose Fluid Film, but just about anything would be better than nothing with the level of moisture and salt we deal with.
This whole concept is foreign to me. I've always lived south of the Mason-Dixon line.
Is this something you have to do every year?
I live in PA, which I guess would be one of the first real salt belt states. I don't think PENNDOT quite slings the salt here like more northern states. In PA you can still pick out a New England car in a pack of PA cars. It will have rust everywhere.
Even though we spread salt here, I never heard of fluid film or any undercoating as a yearly service until I got on these forums. Pretty interesting.
