To be honest with you I don't know. I just bought the Jeep and I suspect it must have been on it's way out already, possibly due to abuse.

I went wheeling today and got through nearly everything in 2WD. Tried to climb a hill though and spun the tires so I coasted back down and put it in 4LO. Started climbing and about halfway up the hill when it got steep I heard BANG BANG BANG and my rear tires started spinning without the fronts. Tried again and there was just a bunch of fast clicking and not a lot of going forward. 2WD still works fine though and everything drives ok.

I haven't actually confirmed it's the t case yet so I suppose it could be my front diff too, but I don't believe it is. Not a huge issue though, I've already found several cases for ~$100 used in my area, and a few parts trucks I could steal one from too. This is a 242 t case by the way.

Still a bummer though. A couple weeks of Jeep ownership and I'm already understanding the Just Empty Every Pocket mantra.

That's about what I see with mine. It's paid for itself.

Replaced the wheels and tires. The OEMs were the five-holers that can collect crap between the vertical surface and the rim. They were so rusted I was afraid to clean them for fear of opening up a leak.

Found a set of OEM 6-holers about 5 miles from where I grew up in CT that my dad picked up and delivered down here on his and mom's semi annual visit. No more rust and they came with much better tires than were on it when I bought it.

Installed a pair of motor mounts. I think that's the easiest thing I've done to the jeep so far.
Now it's off to the JY for some injectors (and anything else interesting I can find)!

Today I installed an iron rock adjustable double shear trackbar on my xj, good bye bump steer, I'm so stoked. Also, installed a new heater core, now I have heat, very happy about that too.
