How did you verify those results? What equipment did you use?
Have you ever indexed your distributor before this?
I have a wide band air-fuel meter and a Snap-On scanner. The air-fuel 5volt output is hooked to my engine control. All I did was to remove the sync sensor retainer strap and make the hole into a slot. I'm just trying different things so I can plan my engine build.

Check your distributor indexing. They were off from the factory.
What happened was the ECU yells "fire" but the tip of the rotor may not be in close proximity of the dizzy inside terminals.
Went to the JY and picked up a fuel rail, now I am off to a different JY to grab a TCM. If I am lucky I can get everything installed by the weekend and hopefully have a running XJ that doesn't throw codes and act like an unleaded sprinkler
Jeep not starting sporadically... changed starter.
After several unsuccessful tries at starting up my "new" Jeep, I had enough and started to troubleshoot the problem. Battery was recently replaced and all the wires look good. Jeep didn't crank, no clicks, nothing.
Took a chance and bought a new starter and had a local mechanic replace it. Now the XJ purrs to life every time! The old starter? Well, it's probably the factory installed one by the looks of it...
Couldn't start Jeep so after some troubleshooting, surmised it was the starter.
By the looks of it, probably it's the original factory installed piece.
Got some FREE lower control arm brackets (rustys) from a local jeeper who accidentally ordered two sets. Just in time to replace my stock mangled ones.

Now fix the oil leak that caused the failure of your starter.
