For a little more you could probably get a brandy new DS from Tatton. Wow, $269.00. JY $20.00 DS in your future...

That one was from the JY originally. Im gonna go to a local person round my way and ask them. This place i went to is actually a really good place. They deal with truck and big rigs but are known to be pricey.

Fixed my horn mostly. The driver side was dead but the passenger one is going again. I'm not overly concerned with the drivers not being there though. Wish I knew why the PO went to the trouble of cutting the wire off in the harness rather than just unplugging it at the horn. He had an aftermarket alarm I'm assuming didn't play well with the stock horn.

I think maybe some states have laws against removing doors that weren't meant to be removed from the factory but im not sure...Heck, my state outlawed any modification to a motorcycle that "results" in it becoming louder than stock...And at one point, you were only allowed 2 sizes over stock tires on vehicles with abs. We also need fender flares covering the full tire tread...Anywho, it all depends on how strict cops are in your area. The biggest problem for most people is finding a shop to give out inspection stickers

If I remember correctly theres a nationwide law that says you can only drive without doors if your vehicle was manufactured like that. In some places it just isn't enforced, like with fender flares or mud flaps.

I didn't have time to go into details with the story as it happened on my way to work, but it turns out the cop was a school police officer. He thought I was a kid with a similar jeep (at least that's what he told me, I call BS) and wanted to bust my chops. He stated that in California it is illegal to modify the car in any way other than what came from the factory. (again I call BS) He got on me for no mudflaps and oversized tires, and my rear view mirrors as well. I think once he realized I wasn't really breaking any laws, he loosened up a bit. I then asked him if tube doors and fender flares were okay and he said yes. So looks like I need to get on some projects to make the local 5-0 happy. Until then, doors are gonna be back on unless I'm not running around town, it's kind of a small town and the cops stick together here. Just easier to deal with than getting hassled by the law for no reason other than they don't like my jeep. Funny thing is I've had other local cops smile, wave and give me a thumbs up when I pass by them. Dude just wanted to flex his muscles IMHO...

Its a federal law. Vehicles must retain all body panels from the factory. Secondly, doors must come at least 3in above the waist while seated to be considered doors. Also, in many states, you must have at least two mirrors, one of which is the rear view.

Now, my tube doors (home made for 20$, and made out of emt) pass because I have a mirror on drivers side, and they come above the waist, and they lock in to the factory door pin. But it is a federal law, I got ticketed for it, judge dropped charges since I put doors back on, but yea. If you wanna go doorless and not get busted, just make some tube doors with conduit from Lowe's. It's not structural, but it looks the part enough, and it passes.

Hehe, I've waved at cops with my doors off. But I still have both side mirrors so I guess they just don't care. And my Brother's seen my Jeep doorless, he's a cop and hasn't mentioned anything about it being illegal. He didn't like it, but that's just more him being a big bro.

Tried fixing the passenger side door check arm. Pulled it out, wasn't broke. Put a new pin in and it popped real bad. Realized I put the check arm assembly in the wrong way. Flipped it, the pop was quieter. Swapped the bracket that's on the door sill out with the one from my parts jeep. A little quieter but not perfect. At least it won't close on my girlfriends leg anymore lol.

I had a cop yell" NICE XJ!" At mine with no doors. I was first of all surprised he knew it was an xj but second of all surprised he diddnt sneer at it like they usually do lol
In Texas all you need is one mirror so I thought it was legal with no doors but I guess not

All that makes me think is "What would they say about a Wrangler doing it?"
