Two projects today.
First, I installed the T-case skid plate. My 96 Sport did not have any skids. Picked one up (literally-it was on the ground by itself) at the junk yard recently. The cross member on my XJ had the two holes, but no threaded hardware. The body rail had only one hole (go figure) and nothing threaded. Since I hate the darn nutserts, (on account of them spinning in the holes when you want to undo a bolt) I opted for a trick someone on the forum mentioned. I drilled the 4 holes to accept the nut part of flanged nuts. Stuck 'em in and welded the flanges to the cross member and rail. Ground off my crappy welding mistakes, cleaned and sprayed some black paint on. Then bolted on the skid plate. Sturdy. Invisible. Functional. Then I crammed a big rag between the bottom of the T-case and the skid. Its a diaper to keep the leaking oil off my driveway. Works. Don't laugh.
Second, I installed hood struts from an Infinity Q45. Full write up here:

Been doing these nice incremental projects and its coming along. Next is the headliner. I think I will use wood strips and give it the Conestoga Wagon look. I did that to my 90 Laredo years ago.

If you do choose to smash a window....
Porcelain is harder than glass, if you have access to an old spark plug, break the white porcelain part with a hammer. If you throw a small piece of it at the window, it will shatter effortlessly.

I would have picked them anyway, a little graphite lubricant will make them smoother. Kansas is a little far though, I'm a Good Samaritan but not that good. If you do choose to smash a window....
