I have mondays off so I did a few things to my newly acquired 2000 xj sport. I changed the alternator. I had that whole non charging and gauge dropping to zero thing happening. Along the way I created a few more projects. The battery box hold downs snapped and 2 of the 3 bolts holding the box to the fenderwell snapped too. Drilled those out for nuts and bolts and used new universal 8" hold down rods, I also cleaned up the box and the fenderwell area below it. I "restored" the battery terminals. They were in good shape but the bolts were rotted and adjustment was not possible. Replaced them with new bolts, cleaned them all up with a wire brush and installed them with new felts for the battery. It all worked out great, shes charging properly now and the gauge reads right up the middle at 14v. $80 for parts. Then I went to my mailbox and discovered that my ebay headlight switch had arrived. I was on a roll so I figured, might as well give it a go. This was incredibly simple. A few screws and the dash covers were sitting on the passenger seat. The old switch dropped right out the bottom of the dash making it real easy to unplug, Plugged the new one in and viola, lights work perfectly now. I just have to screw the bottom knee plate back on the dash and its done. I got called in to dinner and I figured it could wait. I also got a 2nd key made for it because it only came with one. 4 bucks later and Im all good to go. Thank god theres no pats system in this thing. Now I just need to get a keyless entry remote from ebay and figure how to program it. Its a sport so I figure it must have come with keyless remote entry. If the football game gets boring Ill pop out to finish the dash later. If not it can wait till tomorrow.

Installed some 1.5" spacers, rotated the tires and inspected the unit bearings and ujoints. Both axle shaft joints have rusty caps and the unit bearings have play so sounds like a fun weekend coming up...
