It's the most common Automatic transmission in XJ's, AX15 is the most common Standard transmission and is a 5-speed.

The NP's are transfer cases, not transmissions. They send power to the front axle. The NP231 is part-time only, NP242 is both part and full time.

Transmissions and transfer cases are separate... many are interchangeable...
