4 = 4 speed
The full time 4WD transfer case you are referring to is simply the NP242 - NP= New Process (manufacturer)
Thank you I knew the second part. Just didn't know the Aw4 part.. more info on the Aw4? I like expanding knowlege

The NP's are transfer cases, not transmissions. They send power to the front axle. The NP231 is part-time only, NP242 is both part and full time.
