I was reading about this swap the other day, it's defiantly on my to-do list. How hard was it and notice any difference?

And my list of freebies for my XJ grows.

Buddy of mine at work bought a friends 96 Explorer to part out and gave me the 8.8 out of it for free.
How can you tell what the gearing is on it?

Semi accurate way is to turn the pinion and watch the axle shaft turn. about 3 1/2 turns of pinion to one turn of the axle is 3.55:1, over 4 turns of the pinion 4.10:1

The only really reliable method though is to pop the diff cover and count the ring and pinion gear teeth and perform division.

Went by the paint shop again yesterday and they STILL haven't started painting it! Damn, dude! But, they're installing the flat flares and I guess they're not used to trimming fenders. They said I'd be able to take her home tomorrow. I seriously question that. But hopefully I'll get her back before this weekend.

In other news, I've been waiting for Customs to get back to me regarding getting a SENTRI sticker for the rig. Been waiting for a LONG time, so I decided to log in and take a look. Seems they've been ready to inspect the Jeep since October 12. I just never got notified. Bastards! It's too late for an appointment before a possible roadtrip to San Felipe, so if I go, I gotta take the regular lanes. Bummer. But after I get the sticker, it's all VIP lanes, baby! 2.5 hour border crossings turn into 10 minute crossings!

Cursed it when I saw the hood up and my wife saying "I think we're going to need more coolant". Judging by the huge puddle and empty header tank, we're going to need some parts as well :/

Transferred son and large mountain of stuff to another car and went in that. Jeep is still sitting there looking a bit sheepish right now.

Good to have a wife that can save an engine, I guess.

This takes about an hour or so?
Or does it take longer b/c things are always stuck?
