Radiator core blew yesterday. All the cooling system components were original at 178K miles so I opted to do the t-stat, water pump, radiator and hoses in one swoop. It seemed like the right thing to do, what with winter coming just around the corner. Well, as it turns out, the water pump and t-stat were pristine but I replaced them anyway. Now, after all that work, the t-stat housing won't seal due to surface blems in the casting. Too bad I can't find a housing tomorrow (Sunday) so I can drive worry-free on Monday. Tomorrow I'll grab another new housing gasket, splooge it with Form-A-Gasket and give it one more go. I guess I should order a new housing anyway - especially if I want a reliable fix.
Well, whaddya' know. I "lucked" into a new t-stat housing on Sunday morning and was done with that job before the footbal game (Pats v. Titans)...
