I finally got around to removing the old stock trim off the side of my 99 XJ. I gotta say, It was a b***h! I used goo gone, goof off, rubbing alcohol, and medium guitar pics to get all the old molding glue off (the guitar pics get it up quick). Eventually it came out flawless. no rust or damaged paint at all under them. The finished product looks nice.

 

Found that my jeep was letting in rain water at the front of the rain gutter at the windshield... hopefully it's fixed now.

 

Gave her an oil change.... Jeez, Mobil One's getting expensive.

 

Took the Peep on a road trip to the big smoke today. Daughter scored a new desk and chair, the wife a washer and dryer. Wow these people are fixated upon work related articles. One needs relaxation too. The Pup and I made a side trip while the trailer was warmed up. Look what followed us home! Pup can't figure how she is going to ride this one. Only question remaining is how long before I hurt myself? With the wifes reaction I know I made the right decision. She always says she worried less when I was on the dirt, not the steet. Guess I was 30 years younger then. Probably not getting smarter with age

 

installed my diff cover, relocated my gas tank, and added some steel to my front bumper

 

How bad was the tank to do?

 

Got sick of looking at the side moldings, so I got out the handy-dandy plastic scraper and took them off. Ahhhh! So much better now! I wasn't so concerned about scratching the paint, since I aim to get it into the paint shop soon. It actually wasn't difficult at all. It was a lot easier than I remember when I did it to my 2WD.

 

overall its not a difficult job, but im not completely done yet.

You gonna use straps or just bolt it in? BTW how bad was the rear 4 link? Something I've been thinking about for a while, what coils are they? Yj?

 

im going to re-work the stock straps. ill post pics when done.

the 4 link difficulty depends alot on what style you're trying to do. but as long as you understand the geometry of it and how the load points will work then it's not too bad.

Ok, I've done a lot of rear fours on air ride trucks for years just never done it on a xj..........yet

 

just remember, it is a unibody...so make sure the pressure points are addressed, that will the difference between flexing fine for years, or tearing the unibody apart.

for example, i can open and close my doors easily when fully flexed out.

 

Nice, I also took mine off a while ago. I used a heat gun set at a low temp and a snap-on plastic scraper. Made it a breeze, and did not damage the paint at all.
