I thought my tstat cracked or the gasket was leaking really bad, after 3 hours of researching I realized i just needed to tighten the upper radiator hose clamp. The front was dry, but in the back a tiny trickle ran down the housing at idle and dripped from the bottom. At higher rpm it sprayed everywhere so I couldn't see exactly where the leak was until I cleaned up and watched. A lot more work than it had to be.

build one. and i will help put it in. mine was on the high end but you can find the stuff for cheap.
AMC 4.2L crank from JY
AMC 4.2L rods (shorter than 4.0)
and thats a 4.5L.

if you bore it .060 over then you get the 4.7 or get custom pistons that let you use the stock length rods like i did then you only need to go .030 over

im building a spare as soon as im done installing this one. remember my grenaded engine? lol its gonna be a 5.2L stroker.

Got the oil pan off and is installing new rod bearings and pan gasket in the 4.0, hopefully the new gasket will solve the oil leaking problem
