Default Wet pavement wheel spin

Anyone else experience excessive rear wheel spin on wet paved roads? I'm only one month into ownership of my 99XJ, but at 57 years old I've owned many cars/trucks with out experiencing this level of poor traction. This is my set up - 4.0, 4WD, NP231 transfer case, 8.25 non-limited slip rear axle, AX-15 stick and 1/2 worn M/S Toyo tires. Even if I feather the clutch, only slight throttle will produce spin. This is a 1st and 2nd gear issue. Yes, I can keep the rear wheel from spinning, but I have to be careful. So is this simply just nature of the little beast? Would different factory drive train options better address this issue? Should I simply add weight to the rear?
Comments and suggestions welcome!

Sounds like the tire issue. Are they a dedicated mud tire? Maybe just too much air in them.

near 50/50 weight distribution, torquey inline 6, low first gear, and only a 3500 lb rig with tires that have little sipping.......pretty common. A change in tire to an AT or tires with more siping will help. I have brand new MT's on mine and i can spin em even after i come out of the car wash. Try dropping your air pressures to around 25-27psi and see if that helps.

They are Toyo Open Country M+S. I think that means Mud and Snow, but they look like a street tire to me. Air pressure is at owners manual spec. I will drop it and see what happens. Thanks!

My 2 door 5 speed had that issue. I always blamed it on that torque haha.

Ok, so some nature of the beast, some tire designation, some air pressure issue. I'm glad these tires are half worn. Living in far northern CA, we get major rain, so I will shop carefully for replacements when the time comes. Love my XJ, but I will need to address this sooner than later.
Thanks

Just reduced pressure from 33psi to 27. Rain coming again tomorrow, so we'll have a bit better foot print and see how much this helps.
Thanks guys!

One mans jeep is not like another mans jeep, both tire and weight.

Get some chalk. Chalk them tires real good. Drive straight bout 100yds. Then check the wear of the chalk. Address the tire pressure as needed for the chalk to wear even. When I had stop destination ATs, awesome tire, I had them at 30 and they wore great. Now with 235/85/16 GG ATs, I run 27 front and 23 rear for even wear

Got to say...pretty sure this is probably the first time I have seen a complaint about having the power and torque to spin wheels easier. lol

The suggestions everyone has already given you are solid suggestions, just had to comment on the unusual nature of your complaint and ask if you are sure nothing is dragging in the front causing the rear to slip more when trying to push it?

Get a ZJ with a 4.0 and you will never have to worry about spinning the tires again.

Another thing to remember...if it was the first rain in a while, the road was probably slick with oil residue. Other than that, lay off the skinny pedal, LMAO

These are 235/75R 15's. Just a little larger than the stock tire, but enough to allow running less than factory spec. 33lb. pressure. I think your on the right track. The chalk would tell the story...

HA! Guess I'm get'n old. Actually I've alway enjoyed sliding around in our Z28, but I like doing it on purpose....

Great suggestion. I pulled the front wheels to check brake wear, but don't recall giving the tire a spin for possible drag. I don't think she's drag'n but I'll check.
Thanks!
