and I'm willing to bet, anything that would bend my 2x6 would have no problem bending your 3x5

Your support on a 3x5 is stronger than a 2x6. That is just design. And where the pressure points are. Anyone with metal knowledge will tell you this. With an inch shorter piece of metal sticking out you are really gaining strength. The further it sticks out the easier it is to bend towards the door.

The way you weld them in makes the world of difference.

Gaining 1in is true. I do like the idea of the 2x6 sticking out more though. More protection.

If you look at my little jeep you probably think I have not put them to the test. But truthfully very few people would even take their similar jeep places I attempt.

Anyways, they are rock solid. Every time I bash them I think of what ktm said. But even though I have mashed my frame rails my rock sliders do not even have a ding. Nor have they bent upwards a mm.

No different than wood. A 4x4 is much stronger than a 2x6 they way we mount our sliders.

and I've taken deep gouges out of my 2x6. no bend. so that argument that it will bend is pointless.

sure, the the extra inch can create more leverage if left un supported. but most will support it, and the extra inch outwards of protection is well worth it

my point is, the 2x6 itself will more than likely never bend

Well then that is a good thing. Like I said the main reason I did mine 3x5 is because it fit perfectly in the cut out where my old rockers used to be.

i am looking at doing a 3x4x1/4 on mine and then adding DOM tubing to the sides to make them stick out farther without losing the strength
