warm start up 2.5 td
hi guys sorry to join an ask to pick your brains straight away .BUT , the jeep starts great cold . then i go out an if im only a couple of mins it will start fine . but when i go the gym i warm it up an im gone an hour an it wont start , it turns for 20 sec till the battery starts to die , so i have to sit there for 20 mins then it will start . it cant be fuel cause it wouldnt start when it cooled . ive read fuel pump , but how could a fuel pump be affected by engine temp . starter ? but it turns fine when warm . what else is there ? oh also if the engine is at op temp i can stop it and it will start again fine as long as its not been left for more than 10 mins

I would start simple... check battery cables, then connections, then start looking at sensors. Also, if you have access to a parts store that loans out tools I would get a pressure tester for your fuel rail. That can tell you if you have a fuel pump that is failing or if it's the fuel pressure regulator... and you should have one on that as it's a common rail diesel if memory serves me right. Oh how I would love to have one of those here in the states....

You didn't state if it was a manual or auto.
I was having the same problem with my 88 Xj 5 speed and it turned out to the be the Crankcase Positioning Sensor, located on the bellhousing
When it became hot the CSP was failing but worked when cool/cold. It ran great after it was started. but getting it started when hot was an issue.
It drove me nuts until with help from this forum I located the problem.
