Default Want to buy a welder

I would like to buy a welder and i was wondering if anybody has bought and used any from harbor freight. I saw this one the other day when i was there and was wondering if anybody has used it. The only thing i would use it for is some body work and maybe building a tube bumper and and roof rack and stuff like that. http://www.harborfreight.com/welding...der-98871.html

I bought the HF Flux wire welder that you mention. Used it to replace my outer rocker panel and patch the inner rocker panel. It works very well and I would recommend it. I did buy some Lincoln wire and tips for it. Couldn't be happier. I paid $99 on sale and this month it's on an even better sale for $89.

The harbor freight one you can get the replacement warranty for like 20 buck. Id say go that route for light use. If anything ever happens (2years) just take it back to store and get a new one.

I bought my stud welder there. And I know a bunch of people that got stuff from them and it held up extremely well for being priced low.

Well Ill take what you say into consideration. But could you explain why the weld wont hold up? They are suppose to weld up to 1/2 thick steal. What makes them cheap welds?

Also can this plug straight into any garage outlet?

If so, wont that not put out enough amperage to weld fully?

the welder doesnt put enough power to make proper welds and also i dont beleive you can hook up gas to that , gasless welding might be ok for doing a roof rack or something but thats as far as id take it , im just saying you get with what you pay for , its 89 dollars for a reason

Skip cheap. With anything you do(for the most part). You will just end up replacing it in the long run. I have a Hobart 140. I would be leary of welding on very thick stuff like axles, but its reliable and you can run flux or mig. And it is 110(plugs into normal outlet)
