I'm in the process of swapping everything from my $200 96xj organ doner into my chopped xj with mj bed. If I can figure out how to post pics I'll have some up this weekend. But I pretty much bought the chopped xj with nothing in it the interior was stripped not even a dash and the motor was junk. It was stricktly for offroad use only. But I don't have a trailer and I'd rather have something I can drive to and from the trails. So I decided I'd like to just replace everything.
My question for the group is is there anything I should look out for. This is my first time doing this but I have a good friend who is a mechanic and helping with the swap. Also this is my first offroad rig other then two quads and would live to hear tips on what mods to buy.
Thanks guys

At the risk of sounding like a dick, you should move this into the discussion section, you didn't even ask a question about fabrication let alone talk about fabricating anything! There is a proper place to post all your questions if you take the time to look around for a minute!

Your not a dick. I didn't ask the question I intended to in the post I guess I got carried away with what planning what I was doing and didn't ask it.
That being said my question was more for the chopped cherokee guys and how they made interior plastics for the back section. And the other question which was in my post is about what to look out for in doing the swap. I figure they may be some differences between the 9years like for instance the brake booster. The fact that the radiator and overflow tank are different.

i would be worried if the previous owner cut all the wiring for the dash and tail lights etc.
if you want a jeep for the road, i would start with a complete and working jeep.

I've decided to take everything from the 96 and put it into the 87. The motor from the 96 runs great. It's the motor from the 87 that is junk. And for plastic I have decided to stick with the original owners idea and fiberglass the back section. Just behind the back seats. Eventually I am going to try my hand at bending up a roll cage and remove most of the plastic. I'm going to try and post some pics to clarify but this entire thread my belong in another section of the forum since most of what I am doing is on bolting from one jeep and bolting onto another. Not much fabrication.

But the piston rings are shot in the motor that came with it so I've been looking for a cheep replacement. And scored the 96 for $200 so it turned into swaping everything. It's is really fun and giving me a sense of ownership, because I didn't build any of this great looking truck, but I got it cheep with the new lift tires and amazing mj back.
