Is uniden pro 510xl an illegal cb?
Got one for a buddy for Xmas. He's concerned it's illegal because it mentions 7 watts?? Thanks.

Read the reviews, seems to be legal but under powered from what the reviews say. Not sure where you saw 7 watts, but for under 50 bucks you may not get a whole lot. Supposedly it was developed for off road jeeps and other small vehicles, easy to mount due to small size. Hope he gets good use out of it.

That came up in another forum. Read through the specs. It's not 7w output, it's some other spec. I just can't remember what exactly. You should be fine.
EDIT: Here you go. It's 7w Audio output, but the Transmitter is 4W.
Receiver Sensitivity:

Most cb radios are 5w.
Even if it is 7w, it's not going to get you in trouble. The people that get in trouble are the ones running linears and pushing lots of watts, so put it in and don't worry about it.

You arent gonna get in trouble for that. Yea there is state laws on CB radios. Alot of CB's you can buy, especially made by Galaxy are intended for base station radios but can be mounted in vehicles. They do have plates or stickers on them if they are and list the cautions and prohibits..
Heres my setup in my Nissan. The CB its self has been peaked and tuned, finals, road king mic, echo, etc, etc, etc... Pushing 35 watts by its self alone, then i added the little 225 watt linear you see to boost it even more . All this is soon to go in the XJ, though the linear is gonna be hid in the console. Not that im worried about the wattage, just isnt anywhere else for it.
