Default Unibody curiosity question

Ok, well I was just driving the other day and got to thanking, why did jeep give cherokee's and GC's a unibody instead of a normal frame like a wrangler. Is there any thing better about the unibody setup? Is it any stronger, does it provide more clearance, is it cheaper to manufacture, etc. all thoughts that ran through my head. Maybe some can enlighten me on this, or direct me to a thread of link that can. All just curiosity of coarse

It's lighter, gives better ground clearence, cheaper to produce, and is a little more rigid. So you pretty much answered your own questions.
