The '85 XJ that I had years ago had a retractable light under the hood that you could grab and it would extend out long enough to use while changing a rear tire at night.
Was this a factory item or something aftermarket?

retractable lights were factory i pulled one from a 87 at pick n pull not to long ago bud dang i didnt know it would stretch that far i would be afraid it wouldnt retract

 

just grab a Chevy one...you can manually wind them in, i had a oem Cherokee one it broke and would not retract in anymore...i grabbed one chevy one from a suburban at the junk yard and fit it to the oem xj braket...it works great!
