I've ran/running both type's of motors but never a 4.0 and never on a stock block either, most never get close to a good tune on either because of the cost involved there also.

Yeah yeah I like wrenching not spelling and grammar. im also writing from my phone where I can only see 4 words at a time without constantly zooming out. The super charger is definitely the way to go if your willing to spend the money since it eliminates all the hassles just bolt on plug in and your set I don't think there is a complete setup for turbocharging on the market but I could be wrong

Stroker can be done in a weekend and for cheap too. crank, rods, and new bearings. He'll even pistons are affordable. I got my pistons for $120, rods for $130, and cranks can be had for $200 but if you can't find one a new scat crank (4.2) is $450. King bearings $50. Gain of 100lbs of torque is fantastic. The more you add the more you get. I have $2000 into my 4.5 stroker and that's new head, cam, timing chain, water pump, header and pretty much all new under hood. $2500+ for a supercharger on an older motor vs $2k for all new motor with 3rd more torque mostly down low sounds like better deal to me

For 4k you could do a ls swap tho,That is if you can do all the work yourself and find a engine and trans cheap enough.

That is an unrealistic gain. No stroker has shown that on the dyno.
The supercharger on a stock 4.0L puts out more power than a stroker.

That is crank not wheel obviously. My point was you get a big gain and fresh motor instead of bolting on more power on a high mileage engine. Any engine builder will tell you that's a recipe for disaster. I'm sure there are people who have had no issues doing that but its defiantly backwards approach.

Recipe for disaster or backwards approach, or not.

These jeep engines are very unique and different than most other engines. To date over 100 supercharged Jeep 4.0s, all used engines most with over 100,000 and many over 150,000 miles and NO FALURES.

All 'theoritical' internet flaming with no experience or actual evidence.

No flaming intended, just saying build a motor add the forced induction later is best approach for best results. Though a stroker with most aftermarket supercharger will net you low boost from what I've read mostly from your threads or id go that route now with my stroker. Now a turbo setup on a stroker with the turbo spooling quickly would be a sweet combo.
Cobramarty is there and supercharger that you could run that would net more than 4-5lbs of boost? I'd be interested in that more for my setup, say 8-10 lbs boost ?

Thank you cobramarty I know I saw a list like than on another thread but couldent find it again. Its really not a backwards approach either these 4.0's are one of the tougher motors ever made most have no problem making it to 2-300,000 miles on just regular maintenance. I can understand stroking for the confidence of a new motor but as cobramarty also said a lot of people have boosted with no problems and all the research I've done on turboing I have yet to come across a thread mentioning anyone blowing up their motor from it. My whole point is boosting is probably the best bang for your buck and the only people who will tell you it's a bad idea are people who haven't done it or even driven in a properly boosted vehicle

Yeah strokers are cool and new engine but who is going to tune it? How do you tune it? FlyinRyan is like $600 to tune and you need 6 bigger injectors.


I am building 2 forged engines now. A 4.1L (stock crank with 0.060" pistons) and a 4.2L mini stroker with a 3.5" crank and 0.060" pistons. Both with big valve ported heads and cam. These will still tune with the stock ecu and the slightly bigger 703/784 injectors. Then will add the superchargers on them. Compared to a stock 4.0 190hp/220tq they should make about 225hp/250tq and rev to 5200 easily. Then with the superchargers and 12-14 pounds boost, we are shooting for 400hp/450tq. We want to see 300+rear wheel hp. Out of a non-stroker.


The M62 supercharger on a stock 4.0L will give 6 pounds boost and at upper rpm or a cold day 7 pounds.


For someone with a legitimate stroker engine, I have a M90 kit for them. These are only available to that special someone who can verify that they have a 4.6L+ engine.

No tuning required for stroker. Stock computer handles it no problem. Renix I can't speak for but injectors are all I had to change to match the ci increase. Some 784 Refurbished where $85. You'd need those with super or turbo or stroker...

450TQ is where I'd like to be with my stroker and a supercharger

Dang a m90 kit for 4.6+. I'm only sporting 4.5L shuckss
