Turbine wheels painted black?
Hey all, noob here. I attempted to search other threads for an answer to my question with no luck.
My lift kit is going on soon and I am going to try to fit BFG 31X10.5R15 on these stock wheels after I have painted them black.
I have these ugly gold turbine style wheels on my 92 XJ.
Has anyone ever painted these black and have a pic to post?
Here is a link in case the pics don't attach: www.wheelcollision.com/wccpix/9013gold.JPG
Thanks!

Not quite the same as my stock wheels, but closer than anything else I have seen. Thanks for the link Doug.
Leaving the machined outer ring unpainted had crossed my mind. I am leaning more toward painting the whole wheel though. It might turn out kind of "Mad Max" to use the words of another member's thread. But then I have some crazy ideas for using bed liner paint on other parts like the wheel flares, grill, and rocker panel. So, maybe Mad Max is what I am looking for.
The lift kit and tires won't arrive for several days, so I have some time to think it over.
Anyone else seen these stock wheels painted black?

If you just want to see what it looks like pick up some Plasti Dip (can usually find it at Home Depot and Lowe's). The aerosol comes in black and if you don't like it you can just peel it off. It is "fairly" durable so you might be able to leave it on there if you liked it. I did the wheels on my Magnum, and the wheels and fuel door on my wife's Eclipse (before and afters below)
Mag Before
Mag After
Eclipse Before
Eclipse After
Hope this helps, the cans are like $6 each and I could do 4 Magnum wheels with 2 cans (18")

Interesting, I never would have guessed there is such a thing as Plasti Dip.
Thanks for the photoshop, this is what I wanted to see. I was thinking that mounting 31s on these stock wheels might just be temporary but I think they might look ok painted black.
Actually now that I see your photoshop I think that it looks better with the outer ring left unpainted in the stock stance. However when the lift kit goes on I am going to make some other asthetic mods using bedliner paint which I think will look best with the solid black wheels. The wheels of course will just get primer and regular satin paint, not bedliner paint.
This will all take me a couple of weeks to finish up but I will post before and after.
Thanks Jason

There are several threads on rims, stock rims mods, tire size to rim etc.
I run a 31x10.5-15 on that stock rim, fits good. (1.25 spydertrax spacers to control rub of lower control arm at full turn). Yours can look great in black. Here are some before and afters. Good Luck

Thanks peep, I am going with all satin black on those stock gold turbines with BFG 31X10.5R15 T/As. I think it will look good. Your wheels turned out sweet, well done.
I just realized that I specified D35 instead of C8.25 when I ordered my RC Series II for my 92. So I will have to un-f@*# this and I'll prob not get the lift and other mods completed until the weekend of Jul 8th, but I will post before and after.
