Im new to the forum and I own a '88 cherokee. Its super basic and I'm slowly getting more into jeeps but I'm looking for info. Its a 4 liter basic model but I'm having electrical problems. The cigarette lighter blows the fuse to the radio, the wind shield wipers don't go back down all the way when they are turned on. Half of the dash board doesn't light up at night when the lights are on. When the head lights are on the radio doesn't light up, but still works. I'm just curious if there is a inherited problem with these models of jeeps that you guys know of. If you guys have any ideas or info I'm more than thankful if you can help out!

 

Yes, bud, you have inherited known issues allright. Your jeep being an 88 is known as a "RENIX" Cherokee. A french company called renix made all the electronics for them. The little electrical issues these Jeeps develope with the lights, engine electronics, etc. are all easy enough to fix but just know that they to happen and are very common. The good news is there is a wealth of knowledge on how to fix these Gremlins with the Renix XJs her on CherokeeForum. Just post up your questions in the proper section and the experts will help you out.
