Anybody ever had a chain stretch and make a rattling noise ?

Not unusual, easy to recover from.

Transfercase rebuilds are pretty straight forward. Invest in a quality lock ring plier.

Of you have a np231 then it would be easier to just buy one from a junk yard. Tops $150 for a good used one that would be as good as a rebuilt and less work.

You can find rebuild kits online for around $100.

My local u-pull get's $75 for a t-case, but you never know the condition till you crack it open.

I've got a bunch of np231's some with worn chains others with bad gears..
I pretty much take 2 and make 1 good one.
